In a vibrant display of community spirit, youth engagement, and support for recreational sports, the J.F. Mubang Foundation officially launched the Club 58 Snooker Tournament on Saturday, January 14, 2023, marking an exciting start to the new year in Bamenda.
The event took place at the scenic Hills of Station venue of Club 58, bringing together enthusiastic members of the club, loyal patrons, and a good number of invited guests for an evening filled with friendly competition, music, and fellowship.
The official kickoff of the tournament began at 5:00 p.m. with Mr. Joseph Mubang (Dr. Joseph Mubang, Founder and CEO of the J.F. Mubang Foundation), the main sponsor of the entire evening, performing the ceremonial opening shot to launch the competition.
Two exciting snooker matches were played right away, setting the tone for what promises to be a thrilling and competitive tournament. While the games unfolded, the atmosphere was kept lively and joyful by a live musical performance featuring talented young choristers drawn from various urban parishes across Bamenda. Their beautiful singing and energetic delivery added warmth, inspiration, and a strong sense of community pride to the occasion.
Following the matches, the sponsor generously provided a delicious solidarity meal for supper, which everyone enjoyed together in a spirit of togetherness. The evening then transitioned into an extended period of music and dancing — with participants and guests letting loose on the dance floor in celebration and pure enjoyment.
At the close of the event, the Management of Club 58, speaking on behalf of all members, expressed deep appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to the J.F. Mubang Foundation and Dr. Joseph Mubang personally for their generous sponsorship, support, and commitment to promoting healthy recreation, youth talent, and social bonding in Bamenda.
This launch aligns perfectly with the foundation’s broader focus on Youth, Sports & Peace-building, using sports and creative activities as powerful tools to bring people together, build character, foster unity, and create positive, joyful spaces — especially important in a region that has faced many challenges.
The evening at Club 58 was more than just the start of a snooker tournament — it was a celebration of community, talent, generosity, and the simple joy of coming together.
