Historic Donation: 40-Foot Container of Medical Equipment Worth Over 150 Million FCFA Arrives for St. Blaise Catholic Hospital

Bamenda, North West Region – April 9, 2022, Report by Communication Department JF Mubang Foundation

In a significant boost to healthcare delivery in the Archdiocese of Bamenda, a 40-foot shipping container filled with modern medical equipment valued at more than 150 million FCFA arrived on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at the Archbishop’s House in Big Mankon.

The donation, which came from a Medical Missionary Society based in the United States of America, was officially received by His Grace Andrew Fuanya Nkea, Archbishop of Bamenda.

The equipment is destined for St. Blaise Catholic Hospital, Big Mankon — a key health institution currently undergoing major expansion to become a modern six-storey referral facility.

Archbishop Nkea expressed profound gratitude during the brief but moving handover ceremony, emphasizing that the timely arrival of the container represents a major step forward in the hospital’s transformation project.

Offloading of Equipment from the Truck

“This is a blessing for the entire Archdiocese and especially for the people who will be served by St. Blaise Hospital,” His Grace stated. “We are deeply thankful to our friends and partners in the United States who made this generous donation possible.”

The Archbishop specially recognized Mr. Joseph Mubang, a prominent son of the North West Region based in the United States, as the key facilitator of the entire process.

“Mr. Joseph Mubang not only linked us with the donor organization, but he personally took full responsibility for the complex logistics — from clearing the container at Douala seaport, handling all customs procedures, arranging secure transportation, and ensuring safe delivery right here to Bamenda,” Archbishop Nkea explained.

He described Mr. Mubang’s commitment as “outstanding humanitarian assistance” and prayed that God would continue to bless him abundantly for his tireless service to the Church and the people of the region.

The donated items include a wide range of essential medical equipment expected to strengthen several departments of the hospital, particularly as it prepares to serve as a larger referral centre with improved diagnostic, surgical, maternity, and therapeutic capabilities.

Church officials noted that the arrival of this container comes at a critical moment when many public and private health facilities in the region continue to face shortages of modern equipment — challenges made even more acute by the ongoing socio-political situation.

The leadership of St. Blaise Catholic Hospital expressed optimism that the new equipment will significantly improve the quality of care, reduce referrals to distant centres, and bring life-saving services closer to thousands of families in Bamenda and surrounding areas.

Archbishop Nkea used the occasion to renew his call for continued support — both moral and material — toward the completion of the six-storey hospital expansion project, which is seen as a long-term investment in the health and wellbeing of the population.

The handover ceremony concluded with prayers of thanksgiving for the generosity of the American donors and for the continued health and safety of Mr. Joseph Mubang and all who contribute to making healthcare more accessible and dignified in the Archdiocese of Bamenda.

This donation marks yet another chapter in Mr. Mubang’s consistent record of humanitarian support to health, education, and community initiatives across the North West Region — embodying the principle he often cites: “To whom much is given, much is expected.”
