In a landmark moment of compassionate philanthropy and rapid community transformation, Dr. Joseph Mubang (Founder and CEO of the JF Mubang Foundation) donated an entire building structure that became the St. Blaise Catholic Hospital Extension in Ndamukong, Bamenda—officially inaugurated as a beacon of hope and healing on Friday, December 30, 2022.
The inauguration ceremony, held behind First Pump in the Ndamukong quarter of Bamenda III Municipality, began with a symbolic ribbon-cutting led by His Grace Andrew Fuanya Nkea, Archbishop of Bamenda; Dr. Joseph Mubang; and the Quarter Head representative Mr. John Niba. The event drew joyful crowds of local inhabitants, Christians from Regina Pacis Parish Ndamukong, quarter head representatives, health personnel, and community leaders.
Archbishop Nkea blessed the facility and declared it a “Miracle Centre,” marveling at how what was envisioned as a long-term project during pastoral visits to elevate Regina Pacis Parish to full parish status was realized in record time. He credited divine intervention—”with God everything is possible”—and the swift action of Dr. Mubang, who not only acquired and donated the building but ensured it was fully equipped before completion. The Archbishop reminded health workers that while they treat patients, “Jesus Christ is the healer,” urging them to serve with dedication and compassion.
The idea originated during a pastoral visit when the parish chairperson requested a local health facility to provide easy access for children, the elderly, and pregnant women—vulnerable groups often burdened by distance to care amid the socio-political crisis. What began as a distant dream accelerated when Dr. Mubang embraced the vision, collaborating with the Archdiocese’s health coordinator and personnel to repurpose and equip the structure.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Mubang shared his motivation: the ongoing crisis in the North West and South West Regions had devastated health infrastructure, leaving many in dire need. As someone committed to enabling the needy and giving back, he aligned with Archbishop Nkea’s philosophy that every quarter should have a diagnostic center. He noted that he purchased the building without initially envisioning it becoming such a beautiful, professional hospital—but through faith and partnership, it evolved into a vital resource.
The St. Blaise Hospital Extension Ndamukong is a modern two-storey building featuring:
- A fully equipped laboratory,
- A maternity ward,
- Reception and consultation areas,
- An operating theater,
- Children’s ward, male and female wards, and private wards,
- Over 30 beds in total,
- A reliable water system, modern toilets,
- Ample parking lot,
- A secure perimeter fence.
It operates as an inclusive facility with a dedicated team of over 10 qualified health personnel, including a medical doctor and specialists across departments.
Dr. Aseh Promise, Health Coordinator of the Archdiocese of Bamenda, emphasized the facility’s alignment with both Church mission and national health goals: bringing care “as close as possible” to people, in line with the Ministry of Public Health’s guideline that no one should travel more than 10 km for basic services. He expressed gratitude to Dr. Mubang and Archbishop Nkea for their financial and visionary investment in restructuring the building into a professional hospital.
The Archbishop blessed the facility, calling on the community to use it with love and care. Dr. Mubang promised additional equipment if needed, reinforcing his ongoing commitment to healthcare in the region—building on earlier 2022 donations of medical containers worth hundreds of millions of FCFA to the main St. Blaise site and related pledges.
As a special Christmas gift to the people of Ndamukong, the Archbishop and Dr. Mubang jointly announced two weeks of free consultations, which the community received with immense joy and appreciation.
This inauguration, occurring toward the close of 2022—a year marked by Dr. Mubang’s prolific contributions to healthcare, education, faith initiatives, and civic support—further solidified his legacy as a transformative force in Bamenda. In a region scarred by conflict and limited access to care, the St. Blaise Extension stands as a tangible miracle: proof that generosity, partnership, and faith can turn urgent needs into accessible healing for all.
