The historic ordination took place on Thursday, May 5, 2022, marking a significant milestone for the Mamfe Diocese amid the region’s complex socio-political landscape. Appointed by Pope Francis on February 22, 2022, Bishop Aloysius Fondong Abangalo—a priest of the Diocese of Buéa with a background in canon law and seminary formation—assumed leadership to guide evangelization, pastoral care, and efforts toward social peace in Manyu Division and surrounding areas.

During the solemn ceremony, a special gift was presented to the new Bishop on behalf of a collective of supporters. Minister Victor Mengot, Chairperson of the Steering Committee for the ordination event, alongside Mr. Tasong Paul Juakang (Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development) and Mr. Okie Johnson Ndoh (Director General of the Hydrocarbons Price Stabilization Fund), joined other special friends of the Diocese and personal friends of the Bishop—including Mr. Joseph J. Mubang(CEO of JF Foundation)—in selflessly contributing toward the purchase of a brand new Toyota Prado VX Full Options with leather interior.

This four-wheel-drive vehicle, rugged and reliable, was chosen as an ideal pastoral tool to enable Bishop Aloysius to navigate the challenging roads and remote parishes of the Mamfe Diocese. It would support his extensive duties of evangelization, visiting communities, promoting reconciliation, and fostering social harmony in a diocese affected by conflict and hardship.

The collaborative donation reflected a united front of civic leaders, government officials, and private philanthropists committed to strengthening the Church’s mission. Mr. Mubang’s inclusion in this group highlighted his growing reputation as a key supporter of faith-based initiatives across Cameroon’s Anglophone regions, building on his earlier contributions in April 2022—such as major healthcare pledges for St. Blaise Hospital in Bamenda, facilitation of First Masses for new priests, and parish support in Njimafor and Mankon.

Upon receiving the vehicle, Bishop Aloysius Abangalo Fondong expressed deep gratitude to all contributors. He offered heartfelt prayers that God would abundantly bless them for their generosity, recognizing the gift not merely as material support but as an investment in the spiritual and social wellbeing of the people entrusted to his care.

This gesture underscored the power of collective goodwill in empowering Church leadership during pivotal moments. In a time of regional trials, such acts reinforce hope, unity, and the Church’s role as a beacon of peace and service—values deeply aligned with Dr. Mubang’s lifelong mission of giving back, guided by the principle “To whom much is given, much is expected.”
